The city of Chelan is one of the more popular vacation getaways in Eastern Washington and it doesn’t take too long once you go there to see just why that is. Chelan’s biggest attraction is the lake that shares its name. This 51 mile long lake is filled with cold, crisp, mountain water and provides all kinds of water recreation possibilities. Chelan offers beautiful shoreline along the lake and has a fun community that is best explored on foot. Whether you’re driving through Chelan or going there for a fun overnight getaway, you will not be disappointed.
Things To Do In Chelan
There is a lot to see and do in Chelan should you be lucky enough to be spending any amount of time there. A lot of this centers on the lake where you can go water skiing, boating, fishing, jet skiing, kayaking, and more right there from several points within the town. There are also quite a few park areas in Chelan that offer chances to play on the beach or get out in the water. Chelan is home to a long list of great places to eat and spend the night, many that have been written about in travel magazines. Chelan also offers other things to do and see including museums, water park wineries, a historic movie theater, lots of cute shops, some very fun local celebrations, and a whole lot more. Your chance of being bored during a visit to Chelan is pretty much zero.
Chelan – The Surrounding Area
As if Chelan didn’t have enough to offer, there’s also a ton of things to do in the surrounding area. A quick trip west along the north shore of the lake will bring you to Manson, home of a local casino. You can also travel up north to communities like Pateros, Twisp, Winthrop, Omak, and Okanogan. Chelan is home to the Chelan Dam which aids in keeping water in Lake Chelan, but Wells Dam, Chief Joseph Dam, and Rocky Reach Dam are also within a short drive. To the south are Wenatchee and the Entiat Valley as well. Chelan also offers one of the iconic Eastern Washington experiences; stopping at a roadside stand, purchasing some fresh fruit, and enjoying it as you drive around and explore the country roads. On the south shore of Lake Chelan are Lake Chelan State Park and 25 Mile Creek State Park, both well worth the visit. You can also take a boat ride up the lake to the remote community of Stehekin. It’s very easy to go to Chelan and have enough entertainment options to keep you busy for days.
