About Mazama

Located in Okanogan County, about 15 miles northwest of Winthrop, Mazama is a very small mountain community right on the North Cascades Highway. Mazama got its start as a launching point for miners hoping to strike it big in the North Cascades. Today, tourism is bringing the Mazama area back as more and more vacation rentals are becoming available in the area. This is all because of the tremendous amount of outdoor recreation and beautiful scenery found there.

Things To Do In Mazama

If you’re not going out to enjoy the surrounding area around Mazama, the absolute number one thing to do there is to kick back and relax. Mazama offers a laid back feel and beautiful views in all directions. The town is also home to a great little winery which can make for a fun visit. Though it is small, Mazama offers several lodging options, a general store, an outdoor supply store, and three or four places to eat out at. All this together means you’re sure to come away from your time there rested and relaxed.

Mazama – The Surrounding Area

Mazama is surrounded by what is quite possibly some of the most beautiful scenery the state of Washington has to offer. A short drive west from there puts you right amongst several high mountain peaks and impressive waterfalls. A short drive east down the highway puts you in one of the more unique communities in the state, Winthrop, a fun little Old West town with plenty to offer. The Pacific Crest Trail, along with several other trails, is also easily accessible from Mazama. It really can be a great place to use as a headquarters as you explore and experience the North Cascades.
