About Pateros

Located in Okanogan County, Pateros is a small agricultural town that sits right on Highway 97, just a mile north of the junction with Highway 153 which leads west towards the Cascades Mountains. Pateros is surrounded by important and fertile agricultural land and taking a drive through the local orchards can be a nice way to get a feel for the area. The community was founded as an outpost at the confluence of the Columbia and Methow rivers that could serve settlers, miners, and livestock owners in the area. It would later become an important railroad town too. Much of the town had to be relocated to higher ground in the late 1960s with the building of nearby Wells Dam on the Columbia River.
